Final Exam

1. The photo I took this school year that changed the way I viewed photography would be the picture I took of the purple flowers. This changed the way I viewed photography because it helped me learn to take photos from different perspectives (ie. close-up). My decisive photo would be the photo I took of the purple flowers as well because I really liked how the flowers closer to the camera (at the bottom) were clearer than the flowers far away, making the background seem blurred and allowing the flowers in the front to stand out more.
2. The difference between shape and form is that shape is more of a two dimensional figure with a number of sides, for example a square or a triangle. A form is more of a three dimensional figure that not only has a surface, but also has depth, width, etc.

3. The difference between pattern and repetition is that a pattern is a repeating group of shapes, lines, etc. Repetition on the other hand, can not only include patterns, but it can be generally anything that repeats itself.

4. Movement is when the photo draws the viewer's eyes toward a specific spot in the photograph. I can also be a photograph depicting someone or something in motion. For example in the bottom two pictures, I was able to photograph the subject in motion. In the last photo of a building at Stanford University, the lines and diagonals on the edge and side of the building draw the viewer's eyes into the distance, also giving it a feeling of depth.

5. Of the last three projects, my best work would be the my pictures of the flowers. Click here to go to the final project pictures. This is my best project because I felt that I put a lot of effort into this set of photos. These photos also demonstrated two of my three rules of composition: color and viewpoint. The rule of composition for color was shown in these photos because every photo had a unique central or focus color, for example, the first photo was mainly purple, the second photo was focused on the white, the third was green, the fourth picture was pink and the last picture had a lot of yellow. These photos also demonstrated viewpoint because of the angle from which I took these photos from. This project changed me as a photographer because after completing this project I learned more about the angles to take good photographs as well as where to get good lighting and what to photograph. I learned to see things differently upon completing this project because I was able to find a new way to take pictures. These photos were also a huge challenge to take because I took them outside on a very windy day, so I also learned how to take clear pictures without it being blurry because of the movement from the wind.

Student Website Reviews

First Period Weebly Site

I think the best picture from this site would be the fifth picture from the Presentation Project: Skies slideshow. This is the best picture because it depicts the principle of design, movement. The photograph draws the viewer's eyes along the pathway.

Third Period Weebly Site

I think the best photo from this website would be the fourth picture in the Spring Expo slideshow. This picture is a good photo because it seems balanced and the yellow color of the mango really stands out.

Fourth Period Weebly Site

I think the best picture from this website is the photograph of the pink flowers. This is the best photo because it focuses on the flowers and blurs out the background, which makes the pink really stand out.

MSJ Multicultural Week Story

This week at Mission San Jose High School, we dedicated a week to celebrating and recognizing the many different cultures at MSJHS. Every day, during extended lunch, the clubs would set up booths around the horseshoe that sell food from many different cultures. The students are invited to come and buy the food and enjoy it with their friends. Students enjoy this week because it offers differing and more school food choices and is also much longer than usual, giving students and teachers more time to relax. Multicultural week is a great opportunity for students to learn about the different cultures the students at Mission San Jose High School represent.
